I was working on the advertising for Rolex at the time and spent a fair amount of time at Rolex’s headquarters in Geneva, immersing myself in the rich culture and matchless manufacturing methods of this classic brand. I got the Datejust because of its simplicity, (a very minimalist dial with only batons on a white face) which is precisely what I like about the new Tudor Ranger. There’s no bling, no faux rivets and no unnecessary accoutrements, just a plain and simple tool watch. It’s a shame that a lot of watch ‘experts’ seem to miss the point of this watch. I think it’s the finest watch of the whole Tudor range, which has come on leaps and bounds since the days when Tudor was always overshadowed by its famous stablemate.

Thanks Matt! Yes, the Spirit line does make a good alternative. The newer 37mm size wears quite nicely.

Right when I saw the flat dial I was underwhelmed. But the price is pretty good for what you’re getting, so if you like the design it’s a winning buy.
Honestly, they could have charged more and sold them out to the Tudor fan boys and various mall jewelry shop fashionistas. Compare it to the Railmaster and you see the Tudor is a great value.
But again I’m with James, underwhelmed by what it delivers to the eye and I’ll find something else to spend money on. Longines Spirit line compares well…

Is it being a bit ‘restrained’ that is causing the criticism? It’s one of the few Tudors I would consider as it is great value.

I certainly don’t think it’s the biggest disappointment of 22. But……hey what do I know – I’m no expert.
